Over the last 10 years, my brother Abe, 28, has suffered through severe anxiety, depression, medication induced schizophrenic breaks and an Epstein-Barr like virus which all have drained him of his energy and kept him from venturing out on his own. Abe still lives at home and doesn't have a driver's license, not that he needs one because he is often too tired to get out of bed much less drive. This Christmas, however, was very different: with treatment from a new doctor, a new man has begun to appear out from behind the very young old man Abe has become. I love seeing these changes in him. When he actually stood up to look over someone's shoulder to get a better look at a family photo he passed through the light and I made this shot.
